Watch the trailer for Kristen Stewart's lesbian Christmas rom-com

From Harper's BAZAAR

Updated on 10 November 2020: The full trailer for Kristen Stewart's forthcoming Christmas film has been revealed, giving us a dose of festive cheer ahead of its release date on 25 November.

The trailer sees Stewart's character Abby travel to her girlfriend's home for Christmas (and also to propose), only to find out that her paramour hasn't yet told her family that she's gay. In fact, she's told her relation that Abbey is her 'orphan roommate'. A step away from the serious dramas that we have come to expect of Stewart, Happiest Christmas sees the actress share her comedic side as her character navigates the tricky situation she's been thrust in.

The cast also includes Mackenzie Davis, Dan Levy, Aubrey Plaza, Mary Steenburgen, Victor Garber, and Alison Brie. Full of festive cheer, the film is out on Hulu from 25 November.

Originally written on 7 September 2020: Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis are set to star in a Christmas movie about a lesbian couple travelling home for the holidays. The festive romantic comedy, Happiest Season marks one of the first major Christmas flicks to tell the story of a lesbian couple.

"I think I've wished to see a gay Christmas rom com my whole life," Stewart told People magazine about the film, in which she plays Abby, a woman planning to propose to her girlfriend Harper, played by Davis, over the festive period. The couple run into difficulty, however, when Abby discovers that Harper is yet to come out to her conservative parents.

"We couldn’t have had a better, more loving pack of weirdos supporting each other on this one. Had an absolute blast," Stewart said of the team behind the movie, which was written and directed by Clea DuVall – and also stars Aubrey Plaza and Allison Brie. "I'm so happy and proud of Clea for bringing this into the world," Stewart added.

Although a trailer is yet to be released for Happiest Season, a number of stills were shared over the weekend on the movie's Instagram account – and the teasers suggest that the movie features plenty of festive moments.

"I’m a huge fan of Christmas movies, but I had never seen my story represented... Happiest Season felt like a great opportunity to tell a universal story from a new perspective," DuVall told People.

Happiest Season is set for release in November 2020.
