Kristen Stewart has opened up about her "obsession" with Princess Diana, ahead of playing her in upcoming film Spencer.

The biopic, which comes out on 5 November, focuses on one weekend in the late Princess Diana's life as she spends Christmas with the royal family and decides to end her marriage to Prince Charles.

We've already seen Kristen in character as Diana in the film's trailer, and now she's revealed more about her love for Diana and how she approached the role with "respect".

"I'm obsessed with her - I love her so much," Kristen explained in an interview with Sky News.

Asked about how Princes William and Harry's might perceive her role, and how she approached it with "respect", Kristen continued: "We came to this with a lot of curiosity, and they've [William and Harry] endured that curiosity worldwide their whole lives, and so I'm sure that they're used to it, but that it's not their favourite thing.

The actress went on to explain how she relates to the public scrutiny experienced by William and Harry due to her fame.

"But having said that, it is sort of their jobs and I can relate to that," she said. "People always say 'what, you don't want people take your picture? You're an actress.' It's like, through my bedroom window? No."

Revealing more about her perceptions of Diana, William and Harry, Kristen added: "They are two, seemingly from the outside, very different people that are kind of forging their own paths, and that's her [Diana]. I see her in them and that could sound really kooky - I'm sure that that sounds crazy to them. But it is definitely... the front foot is all love."

Comparing her own experience to that of Diana's, Kristen continued: "It's difficult to compare because... she was a figurehead... Her job was to kind of uphold that ideal. I'm allowed to make mistakes and choices, and therefore the pictures feel invasive, sure, but just less... I feel very lucky to not have a crushing responsibility to be a certain way.

"I'm constantly asked moral questions in interviews, and it's not my job to be right or wrong about things and teach people.

"I'm not a queen, I'm not a princess - it must have been heavy, and it's like the fact that they're able to make that choice."
