Kristen Stewart Says 'Spencer' Taught Her That Diana, William And Harry Were Like A 'Three-Headed Animal'
Playing one of the most famous and beloved women in modern history is a big undertaking. As Princess Diana in Spencer, Kristen Stewart got to experience that particular kind of stress firsthand. She famously studied up on the People's Princess and, according to the 31-year-old actress, the key to bringing Diana to life on the big screen was understanding the importance of her relationship with her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
'The whole thing about watching her, within that space when her children are close to her, it's a nucleus. It's a three-headed animal, sort of an unstoppable beast,' Kristen explained during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. '...You don't want to mess with moms, you just don't do that. I think [Diana] feels so embodied and so unconditionally herself when when she is with her kids. In all of the research, that I was like, "Man, that is what we are protecting here."'
Even though Kristen feels like motherhood was one of Diana's defining aspects, she stressed that she didn't feel like not personally being a mother herself held her back from portraying the late royal and her relationship with her sons.
'I mean, I'm a kid of a parent,' Kristen said of how she tapped into that side of Diana for the movie. 'I do know what it feels like, that exchange. I can’t say with certainty that I know what it feels like to be a mother. But I have, you know, I have all the natural feelings. I am human.'
At this point, the film's director, Pablo Larraín, jumped in to point out that Kristen is also a dog mom, which is a fair point, as any loving pet parent knows.
'I do love my dog,' Kristen added.
