Kristen Stewart is using her spread in the new issue of V Magazine to show a different side of herself: a vibrant, colorful side.

She traded her brunette locks for a cropped platinum slicked-back ’do, looking androgynous with very little makeup on the cover of the magazine, which reads “Free Spirit.” However, the pink Chanel blazer with ruffled cuffs gives her some feminine edge. The inside spread is blazer-heavy and full of praise for Chanel’s head designer, and Stewart’s good friend, Karl Lagerfeld.

“Karl has always, from the very beginning, made me feel like being myself was the right thing to do,” the usually reserved and tight-lipped Twilight alum said. She pointed out that that’s hard to find in fashion — and she would know, having starred in the forthcoming psychological thriller Personal Shopper, in which she plays, you guessed it, a personal shopper in Paris. “And in [the fashion] world, that is a rarity.”

These loving comments come at an interesting time, when Lagerfeld is currently being scrutinized after his harsh remarks about Meryl Streep for rejecting his dress for the Oscars. “He’s a compulsive and obsessive artist,” Stewart said. Well, that sort of explains it.

“And he’s kind,” she gushed. “He is who he is for a reason. I feel so lucky to be in his space so often.”

This cannot be the same man who had such sour words for Streep just a week ago. When she declined to wear his dress to the Oscars, Lagerfeld blamed it on “cheapness,” claiming to WWD that she rejected it because Chanel wouldn’t pay her to wear it. Streep denounced these claims, calling his remark a lie and defamation.

That wasn’t the first time Lagerfeld painted himself in a bad light. He once said that “nobody wanted to see curvy people on the runway” and blamed illnesses on fat people on French chat show Le Grand 8. He also once called Adele “a little too fat.” Luckily, Kim Kardashian taught him “that you don’t have to be super slim and very tall to be beautiful.”

However, like Stewart, Kendall Jenner has only good things to say about the mogul. “I got to know Karl when I was shooting with him for the Karl Lagerfeld campaign,” she told Harper’s Bazaar last year. “I had heard a lot from Cara Delevingne about how funny he is, how he’s normal and just a cool guy. Now every time we get to work together, the relationship gets better.”

Is it just us, or does Lagerfeld sound a lot like a Sour Patch Kid? First he’s sour, then he’s sweet.
