After Benedict Cumberbatch admitted he wouldn't talk to Kirsten Dunst on the set of The Power Of The Dog, she has revealed she "avoided" being near him, too.

In the film - a Netflix Western - Cumberbatch plays cowboy Phil Burbank, whose strained relationship with his brother George's (Jesse Plemmons) wife Rose Gordon (Dunst) and her son causes family friction.

Benedict explained that using method acting techniques off-screen, such as not speaking to Kirsten between takes, allowed them to portray a believable distaste for each other on-screen.

"I didn't want to be really mean to Kirsten, but I needed to stay in character," he told NME. "So I didn't speak to her on-set. She was the same. We were the negative to each other’s positive. [We were] repelled by each other.”

Cumberbatch says he also got into character by not washing during filming, refusing to answer to 'Benedict', and smoking rolled cigarettes with no filter all day.

Now, Kirsten has explained she also attempted something similar, choosing to 'isolate' herself from Benedict on set, and shunning any niceties.

"I isolated myself from Benedict," the 39-year-old told Radio Times. "We didn't talk at all during the filming unless we were out to dinner on a weekend, all together, or playing with our kids.

"He's so sweet. And he's so British. Polite British, you know? I was like, 'I can't talk to you!'"

Sounds like it was all in aid of the film. The Power Of The Dog is available on Netflix now.
