- On this day one year ago, Eliud Kipchoge became the first man in the world to run a marathon in under 2-hours.
- Today, he shared an inspirational message with all his followers.
When Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge broke the tape in Vienna, 1 hour 59 minutes and 40 seconds after he started, something changed forever in marathon running. A barrier broken, a dream become a reality.
One year later, Kipchoge shared the following message with his followers:
'Today we all remember the INEOS 1:59 Challenge. It was indeed a special moment, not only for me or the organizers, but it was important for the whole human family.
'When I crossed the finish line in Vienna, my heart and mind were beating, knowing that I had made a lifetime inspiration to the whole world.
'It’s the inspiration of taking risks, going for records, trying new things, positive thinking, believing in yourself and above all: believing in NO HUMAN IS LIMITED.'
Kipchoge finished eighth in the elite-only London Marathon last month. He said he experienced an issue with his right ear during the marathon, which led to his subpar performance.
