Kimberley Walsh stood out on the red carpet at the National Television Awards, injecting a little interest into an otherwise dull evening for fashion fans.

The Girls Aloud singer arrived in a dramatic Unrath Strano gown with lace panelled sleeves and a sweeping sheer neckline, leading a host of celebs who opted for similar looks.

The dress mixed sheer, lace and satin textures as well as combining black and navy details at the waist, sleeves and neckline.

Kimberley paired the look with black strappy heels, tousled curls, smokey eyes and pink lips as she joined pals Tess Daly and Darcy Bussell to pick up the award for Best Talent Show for Strictly Come Dancing.

The singer later changed into a stunning off-the-shoulder silver grown to perform her solo single, One Day I’ll Fly Away, gaining more points for her sartorial choices than her singing, judging from the response on Twitter.

Other stars jumping on sheer lace included Sheridan Smith, who went for a shimmering silver floor-length gown with floral detail and a sheer panel from neckline to navel.

Jennie McAlpine also opted for a lace panelled neckline, paring her deep berry dress with a sixties beehive hair-do and fresh make-up.

TV presenter Anna Williamson added a pop of colour to the red carpet with her choice of an above-the-knee turquoise long-sleeved dress with similar panelling to Kimberley’s gown.

The sheer lace trend looks set to continue into spring/summer 2013, as we’ve seen a number of designers showcasing the look recently, including Elie Saab at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.
