Kanye West debuted Adidas Yeezy Season 5 on Wednesday, and while the sneaker-clothing collaboration was declared low-key and understated, Kim Kardashian’s head-to-toe purple outfit stood out.
Kardashian attended the Calabasas-themed show at Pier 59 in New York City wearing a plum-colored sheer turtleneck top, high-waisted sweatpants tucked into lace-up ankle boots, and a plum puffer jacket slouching off her shoulders. “I decided to wear all burgundy because I decided I felt really left out that one time,” she explained on Snapchat, undoubtedly referencing a recent Instagram photo of Khloe, Kourtney, and Kylie wearing matching outfits titled “Burgundy Bitches.”
It’s possible that Kardashian’s toned-down look was a reflection of her mood this past year — after getting robbed in Paris and taking a social media hiatus, she’s scaled back on her skin-baring, bejeweled signature style. Let’s compare and contrast her looks from Yeezy shows of yore.
Kardashian arrived 75 minutes late to Yeezy Season 4 in September 2016, wearing a white, long-sleeved, ribbed turtleneck dress over a nude leotard — 80-degree weather be damned. She paired the look with white thigh-high boots and a long gold necklace.
In February 2016, only about two months after giving birth to son Saint West, Kardashian went full-on Cruella de Vil for Yeezy Season 3, draping a white shearling coat over a cleavage-baring 1920s-style dress, which she paired with clear heels. But the real scene stealer was her long, platinum blond wig.
Kardashian’s head-to-toe neutrals at Yeezy Season 2 not only synced with the show’s nude theme (models were decked in flesh-colored tones), but they emphasized her growing baby bump. Then, pregnant with Saint West in September 2015, Kardashian covered up with high-waisted leggings and a matching trench coat.
With North West on her lap and Beyoncé and Anna Wintour by her side, Kardashian wore a gray-green bra over a sheer bronze, long-sleeved top for her husband’s February 2015 show. She also sported copper-colored leggings and a camouflage jacket.
