Christmas is here which means one thing for the Kardashian/ Jenner family – it's time to release their annual festive photos.

Each year, the famous reality star family delight their Keeping Up With The Kardashians fans by unveiling themed Christmas card photos including the famous reality stars and, in recent years, Kris Jenner's adorable grandchildren.

But this year, it seems that the entrepreneurs have broken with tradition by releasing a card featuring just Kris, Kim, Khloé and their children sporting matching Skims athleisurewear – while Kylie, Kourtney, Kendall and the rest of the family are nowhere to be seen.

Here's everything you need to know about the Kardashian/Jenner Christmas photo:

Kim, Khloé and Kris share the 2021 Christmas family photo

Kim Kardashian unveiled this year's anticipated Christmas family photo on Christmas Eve. In a post on Instagram, simply captioned 'Merry Christmas 🎄', Kim was the first to share the 2021 official Kardashian Christmas photo, this year featuring her four children with now-ex husband Kanye West, North (eight), Saint (six), Chicago (three) and Psalm (two). Also making cameos in the photo were Khloé Kardashian, her daughter True, Kris Jenner and Rob Kardashian's six-year-old daughter Dream.

The whole gang wore matching fuzzy sweats, from Kim Kardashian's ultra-successful brand Skims. One picture shows the family sat happily together in head-to-toe cosy brown looks, switching to matching black outfits for some of the other snaps.

Kris Jenner also proudly posted the photos on Instagram just before Christmas, featuring some adorable new pictures of the little cousins playing together.

Khloé herself dedicated no less than three Instagram posts to the Christmas family photos, sharing pictures of herself hugging and kissing daughter Dream Thompson with the caption: 'I've obviously been on the good list. Look at my gift!'

Kylie Jenner shared alternative Christmas 'family' photo

In 2019, Kylie Jenner provided fans a whole new take on her family's traditional Christmas photo.

Just before Christmas two years ago, the 22-year-old shared a photograph of herself and her four close friends wearing matching red, white trimmed festive outfits and socks while sat on a sofa together.

'Santa's Babies,' she captioned the sweet photograph, which also features model Sofia Richie.

While it was expected that Jenner would share a professional photograph with her daughter, Stormi Webster, to celebrate 25 December, we're liking this modern interpretation of her annual Christmas photo.

After all, friends are the family you choose!

Did Kim Kardashian Photoshop North West into the 2019 Christmas card photo?

Kim Kardashian has admitted to Photoshopping her eldest daughter North into her family Christmas photo back in 2019.

Days after sharing the sweet snap of herself with (now-ex) husband Kanye West and children North, Saint, Psalm and Chicago, Kardashian appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and said that not all is how it seems in the snap.

'It was a time thing and it was hard to wrangle everyone together so I said I'll just do my own family...,' she said of her decision not to take part in a Kardashian/Jenner photo that year.

'It was so much anxiety with the four kids, North was having a day and I said fine we'll do it without you but then she said she just wanted to shoot with me,' she added.

'So I said fine we'll just Photoshop her in. So that's not actually her in the picture. The anxiety I went thought to get that picture. There's always one.'

The admission came days after fans suspected that North may have been added into the photo after it was taken.

The mother-of-four also spoke about her sister Kylie Jenner's relationship with Travis Scott.

'I don't know. I honestly don't know but i think they are close friends and co-parenting amazingly.

Discussing a ring that Kylie wore to P.Diddy's 50th birthday party over the weekend amid engagement rumours, the reality star said: 'That ring is... they're definitely not engaged. I don't know the status of their relationship but I don't think they're back together.'

Will the Kardashian and Jenner family unveil their Christmas card photo soon?

If you've been holding out all month for the Kardashian/Jenner family to unveil their annual Christmas card, you're in luck as Kim Kardashian has just posted the 2021 edition on her Instagram.

It comes as a relief to many fans, following a break with tradition in 2019 which left us waiting a long time.

Back in the pre-pandemic year, a source told E! News that the family had decided to 'each do their own Christmas card photos with their individual families'.

The reason?

Well, according to the insider it's because they wanted to hero their immediate families and had struggled to align their busy schedules to facilitate a giant family photo.

'It's not that the family couldn't agree on a theme, they all just wanted to highlight their families individually and truly haven't made the time to coordinate the card,' the source explained.

Which Kardashian or Jenner family member released their Christmas photo first?

As is by now the norm, Kim Kardashian was the first to share the 2021 Kardashian Christmas family photo on Christmas Eve – providing fans with an early Christmas present.

Back in 2019, however, Kim Kardashian shared the first ever West family Christmas card, breaking away from her famous family’s annual tradition.

Over the years, the Kardashian/Jenner family have become synonymous with family Christmas cards, posing for festive snaps with the entire extended family and wearing matching clothing; be it all-denim ensembles, red carpet-worthy gowns or simple white T-shirts and jeans.

Just before Christmas 2019, Kardashian posted a photograph on Instagram of her immediate family of six posting on white steps - presumably in their Calabasas home - in uniforms of matching cream and grey athleisurewear.

In the snap, the beauty mogul’s (now-ex) husband Kanye West sits on the top step holding the parents’ third child, Chicago, while the mother-of-four sits two steps below with her eldest daughter North with her youngest son Psalm sitting on her lap.

The couple’s second child, Saint, sits proudly on the lowest step with a beaming smile.

‘The West Family Christmas Card 2019,’ the matriarch captioned the sweet post which marked the family’s first photograph together since the arrival of Psalm in May.

The photograph was also the first of many presumed to come from the Kardashians and Jenners ahead of 25 December.

Back in 2018, the women of the family – minus Kendall and Kylie Jenner – all posted together in a series of images dressed in white and gold attire in front of a white background.

‘This year we waited until the last minute to do a card,’ Kim explained of her youngest sisters’ absence from the snap.

‘Schedules were changing, my husband was in and out of town. But the day of this card last minute realised we were all together so we had all of our kids come meet us.’

And the year before that? The famous women, daughters and sons appeared in a photograph with a giant green Christmas tree just weeks before Kylie Jenner welcomed her daughter Stormi and Khloé Kardashian gave birth to her child True.
