Kerry Washington felt like a 'diva' while wearing iconic Whitney Houston dress
Kerry Washington felt like a "diva" while wearing one of Whitney Houston's iconic dresses at an event on the weekend.
On Sunday, the Scandal actress stepped out in a red halter-neck gown with ruched detailing at the American Black Film Festival Honors.
While walking the red carpet, Kerry explained that her stylist Law Roach had convinced designer Marc Bouwer to let them borrow the item, which was originally sported by Whitney to the BET Walk of Fame Awards in 1996.
"This dress was really special because this is an archival dress. It was a dress worn by Whitney Houston in 1996. That's crazy," Kerry gushed during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday. "The designer, Marc Bouwer, had it in his archives. And it had not been worn. And in conversations, my stylist, my amazing stylist Law, he was talking to the designer. And I was like, 'Oh, it's such an incredible dress. It has to be the right moment.' And so, if you are going to talk about Black excellence, that's Whitney Houston. So, that was the moment to honour her."
Reflecting on how she felt in the special look, the star added: "I felt like a diva, yes!"
I Will Always Love You hitmaker Whitney died at the age of 48 in 2012.
