The royal family shared some lovely new photos of Princess Charlotte on Instagram on Saturday (2 May) to mark her fifth birthday.

The new pics were taken by her mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, as has become the custom every year with the young royals' birthdays.

A portrait was shared on the morning of her birthday, captioned: "Thank you for all your lovely messages on Princess Charlotte’s fifth birthday!

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share a new photograph of Princess Charlotte, taken by The Duchess this April."

This photo follows a series of new snaps shared on the Cambridges' Instagram account late on Friday evening (1 May), showing Charlotte help pack up and deliver food packages for isolated pensioners near their home in Norfolk, where they have been spending lockdown.

Charlotte looks lovely in a monochrome gingham dress with ruffled detailing, which is thought to be from the high street brand Zara.

The accompanying caption reads: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share four new photographs of Princess Charlotte ahead of her fifth birthday tomorrow.

"The images were taken by The Duchess as the family helped to pack up and deliver food packages for isolated pensioners in the local area."

Royal fans have been loving both posts, and they have already been inundated with likes and messages of congratulations to Charlotte on her birthday.

This is the second birthday the Cambridges have celebrated during lockdown after Prince Louis turned two on 23 April.

On that occasion, some cute new pics of the littlest royal were also shared on the official @KensingtonRoyal, showing Louis having a lot of fun with finger painting.

Happy birthday, Princess Charlotte!
