Kendall, Bella and Hailey All Love This Controversial Trend—And I Do, Too

·3-min read

It's a real feat of fashion design to successfully tread the line between uber-sass and sophistication, and Jacquemus somehow manages to pull it off season after season. Whether it's cut-out skirts, fitted dresses or cropped shirts, there's no denying that the designer's more revealing pieces still look chic. Along with the way each piece is styled, a huge component of this winning formula is sticking to a more muted palette (with the exception of the bold pinks and oranges this season), which gives the pieces a more demure sheen. This season, it's the micro cardigan's time to shine. Spotted recently on various celebrities—Kendall Jenner on the most recent Jacquemus runway as part of the La Montagne collection, Hailey Bieber out and about in L.A. and Bella Hadid outside of the Jacquemus show—it's suddenly become a real It item.

But I can see how the micro trend could cause alarm for some. Not only is the cardigan cropped, but the fastening doesn't secure safely across the chest. Twinset and pearls it ain't, but for those who are intrigued by the idea, I'd direct you to the fashion people below. Ellie Delphine of Slip into Style wears a teal Jacquemus cardigan with white, high-waisted trousers. If you aren't ready for the adventurous Jacquemus version yet, then a buttoned-up cropped cardigan (as seen on Karina Marriott of Style Idealist) is the way to go. Model Imani Randolf styles hers with a matching skirt. And for the all-out Jacquemus vibe, see the styling of Tina Kunakey. Keep scrolling to see this piece in action, and then shop the Jacquemus cardigan in its many forms.

Style Notes: Jenner on the most recent Jacquemus runway wearing a micro cardigan.

Style Notes: Bieber keeps this look casual on the bottom with checked trousers and Nike Dunks, and adds a "wow" factor on top.

Style Notes: A classic Hadid look if we ever saw one.

Style Notes: Delphine really does make this cardigan trend seem much less scary by pairing it with high-waisted trousers and sleek sandals.

Style Notes: Delphine's look from the back.

Style Notes: For a full Jacquemus look, try the cardigan with a mini skirt and strappy heels as seen on Kunakey. Keep the colours dark or neutral.

Style Notes: A demure take on this micro trend.

Style Notes: Trust Imani Randolph to deliver a super-cool version of this trend.

Style Notes: If you want to wear the cropped cardi, then look to Marriott for a chic way to do it.
