Keira Knightley's pirate boots and velvet puffy shorts serve swashbuckling chic
21 years after the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (to give the film its full title), Elizabeth Swann remains Keira Knightley's most iconic character, and it's little wonder why. However, we're currently obsessing over the actress' latest role as secret spy Helen Webb on a mission to avenge her murdered lover in the new Netflix series, Black Doves. And we're not the only ones – the series and its star-studded cast have already been confirmed for a second season!
Sure, at first glance, it may seem like there's little in common between Black Doves and Pirate of the Caribbean. Oh, except of course for the underlying theme of badass female representation in typically male-dominated industries, sorry not sorry James Bond. Be it pirating or spying, Keira has imbued her latest character with a little of Elizabeth Swann's grit and we love to see it.
And it seems the actress has also channelled Elizabeth Swann IRL in a swashbuckling chic outfit.
The look in question, worn to attend a screening of her new Netflix show in New York last night [Monday 9 December], is head-to-toe Chloé, per the fashion house's full-look policy. It consists of a scalloped-trim naval-inspired crop black velvet jacket layered over a high-neck white lace blouse worn with velvet Bermuda shorts and burgundy musketeer knee-high boots.
Despite the French brand championing the boho revival as of late, this look from the Resort 2025 collection is subtly piratecore-coded. It's giving Elizabeth Swann post-promotion to captain. Could this signal a wider return to seafaring chic? Nautical stripes and puffy sleeves at the ready...
