Perhaps one of the hardest parts of getting into a fitness routine is the steep learning curve. If you’ve never taken an exercise class or spoken with a strength trainer, the gym can be a daunting place. How can you be sure that you’re doing the exercises both correctly and in an effective manner?
Maybe if you have a gym membership and access to personal trainers, it wouldn’t be too difficult to figure out. But if you prefer to move at home without in-person guidance, learning the movements can feel impossible.
Thanks to Australian fitness instructor Kayla Itsines, it doesn’t have to. The beauty of the 32-year-old’s fitness content, which she shares both on her fitness app, Sweat, and on social media, is the ability to give you both an expertly planned fitness routine and a demonstration of each movement.
In her latest Instagram post, Itsines shared a handful of tips for improving your form when performing ab movements. She demonstrated the following four moves:
According to the instructor, these four demonstrations and recommendations are the perfect way to “up your ab game,” she wrote in the post.
Sure, it may also be useful to consult with a trainer in person at some point to ensure that your form looks good. But these demonstrations are a great starting point. Watch her form and try to replicate it. With Itsines’s help, you’re less likely to injure yourself and more likely to see the effects of these ab movements.
