Katy Perry has opened up about meeting Orlando Bloom when he was six months into a self-imposed sex ban.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times Style, the singer spoke candidly about getting together (and then breaking-up for a while) with her now fiance, becoming a mum (she's currently eight-months pregnant with the couple's first child, a girl) and her struggles with depression.

'I had no idea that was the case,' she said when asked about the period of abstinence Bloom had imposed on himself before they first started dating. 'I met him in 2016, we were both on a different journey...He's very sensitive, very emotionally evolved.'

The British actor previously explained he had 'gone celibate for a few months' to rethink how he related to women, but that changed when he met Perry.

He said: '[Celibacy] takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, "Who am I going to meet?" I was suddenly, like, "Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends." I was going to do three months [of abstaining], but I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself.

Bloom added that he now views the self-imposed sex ban as 'insane': 'I don't think it's healthy. I don't think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there.'

Perry also said that she has a good relationship with Lord of the Rings star's ex-wife, model Miranda Kerr, with whom the actor shares nine-year-old son Flynn. 'She's got three boys, so I ask her all the tips,' Perry told Style.

When it comes to becoming a mum, the singer is more than ready. 'I feel really good,' she said. 'I love my body and I’m proud of it. I’ve had extremely high highs and extremely low lows and I’ve heard that having children is like the best gift of all, so I’m ready to step into that role and receive the unconditional love that I had a hard time receiving years ago.'
