Katy Perry has admitted that she used to pretend to be Zooey Deschanel to get into clubs before she was famous.
The 36-year-old singer made the confession to Deschanel, 40, herself during an Instagram Live together on Monday.
It came as the actor is featuring in Perry's new music video Not the End of the World, with the plot drawing on their famous similarities as aliens abduct Deschanel believing she's the popstar.

In their chat, Perry said when she first moved to Los Angeles in the early noughties she used her resemblance to Deschanel to her advantage.
"I was pretty much a nobody, and you were like just getting so huge at that time, it was like Zooey Deschanel ran the world," the Roar hitmaker explained.
"In that moment, I was so complimented to look like you. But I have to admit something to you," Perry continued. "When I first got to LA, I went to the club. A lot. And I wanted to get into the club, but I had no money, I had no clout, I had nothing, and sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club."
But Perry appeared shocked as Deschanel revealed she knew all about it.
"People were like 'I saw you!' But I'm such a goody two-shoes, and people kept going like, 'I saw you out! I made eye contact with you!'" Deschanel laughed.
"Then everybody kept telling me about you, 'This girl Katy, she looks just like you,' and I'm like, 'Who is this Katy?'"
"And then when I first met you, I was so relieved because you're so pretty, and I was like, 'Oh, thank God. She's so pretty,'" Deschanel added.
The pair's striking resemblance back then was partly thanks to their dark hair and blue eyes, but nowadays Perry is sporting a cropped blonde style.
