Katy Perry has opened up about her emotional original split from her now fiancé Orlando Bloom. The couple broke up back in 2017, when she recalls feeling vulnerable, dark and deplete with no feeling of fulfilment despite having released a new album.
“My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up and up and then I had the smallest shift, not that huge from an outside perspective. But for me, it was seismic,” she explained during an interview on Q with radio host Tom Power.
“I had given so much and it literally broke me in half. I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be. And then I was excited about flying high off the next record. But the validation did not make me high, and so I just crashed.”
Perry explained that she had a huge emotional crisis between the changes within her career and her sudden breakup from Bloom.
“It was so important for me to be broken so that I could find my wholeness in a whole different way. And be more dimensional than just living my life like a thirsty pop star all the time,” she said.
“Gratitude is probably the thing that saved my life, because if I didn’t find that I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped but I found the ways to be grateful.”
Perry met Bloom at the 2016 Golden Globes when he stole a burger from her table. They started dating soon afterwards, but broke up in February 2017. The following year, the two rekindled their romance and got engaged in February 2019. Bloom proposed during a surprise helicopter trip and now the couple are expecting their first child together.
