Katy Perry has been reflecting on her whirlwind relationship with ex-husband Russell Brand.

It's been a busy few weeks for the singer, who welcomed daughter Daisy Dove last week before releasing her new 'Smile' album just a few days later. Appearing on 60 Minutes Australia on Sunday to promote the record, the new mum opened up about her 14-month marriage to the comedian, which came to an abrupt end in 2011.

"It was the first kind of breaking of my idealistic mind," said Katy. "I was having great success at 23, 24 and 25 and then I met someone that was interesting and stimulating. It was just like a tornado, it was everything happening at once. "But I’ve always really resonated with friction and resistance and challenges."

The new mum previously revealed that Russell broke things off via a text message, telling Vogue in 2013: "He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."

Meanwhile, in the same interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Katy also opened up about her relationship with Orlando Bloom, describing it as "healthy frictional, very open, very communicative, nothing is swept under the mat type of relationship."

The couple broke the news of their daughter's birth on Thursday 27th August, teaming up with UNICEF to make the announcement via an article titled 'The most precious gift: A healthy child.' They welcomed their healthy baby girl, Daisy Dove Bloom, on August 26.

Posted @withregram • @unicef Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom! We are honoured to introduce Goodwill Ambassadors @KatyPerry and @OrlandoBloom’s new bundle of joy.⠀ ⠀ “We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” Katy and Orlando told us.⠀ ⠀ “But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes. Since COVID-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.⠀ ⠀ “As UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, we know UNICEF is there, on the ground, doing whatever it takes to make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare. In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s arrival. By supporting them, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your ♥️ can bloom with generosity.⠀ ⠀ Gratefully-⠀ ⠀ Katy & Orlando.”⠀ ⠀ Please tap the link in our bio to support the most precious gift: a healthy child.
