Katherine Ryan has revealed how she suffered two miscarriages before recently welcoming her son.

The comedian, 38, has opened up about losing a baby at 10 weeks in February 2020, before losing another last summer.

The Canadian star told the Mail On Sunday's You magazine why she had decided to keep her second loss private.

She said: "The first time I felt people could find comfort from hearing me talk about it, the second time I really couldn’t see any positives.

"I definitely thought, 'I don’t know if I can have any more children because I don’t know how many more times I can have this happen to me.'"

Then, when she fell pregnant with her son Frederick, she decided not to announce she was expecting until shortly before his birth in June, because she didn't want to "tempt fate".

Frederick is her first child with husband Bobby, a 38-year-old retired professional American football player and former classmate who she dated and lost her virginity to at 16, before they broke up following a drunken row at their school leavers' prom.

Two decades later in 2019, when she was working in Toronto – and had begun investigating sperm donors, with the plan to become a single mother-of-two – the pair romantically reconnected, and married in Copenhagen eight months later.

Ryan, who started presenting new ITV2 dating show Ready To Mingle 10 days after giving birth, said: "It’s so cliched to say but I wasn’t looking for anyone any more, which is how I found [Bobby]."

She is also mother to a 12-year-old daughter, Violet, from a previous relationship.

The star, who hosts the podcast Telling Everybody Everything, announced the arrival of her second child with a picture of her lying down on a bed cradling her newborn.

Ryan wrote: "I have a really good reason why yesterday's podcast is late."
