The Duchess of Cambridge was out and about in the sunshine on Friday morning (7 May) for a special errand on the day her Hold Still photography book was released.

In a series of short video clips and images shared on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's official Instagram account, we see Kate leaving a copy of her new book tucked away in a hiding spot outside of Kensington Palace.

The accompanying caption explains that the duchess has teamed up with Book Fairies - a worldwide organisation that sees volunteers hide books for people to find, read and then leave out for someone else - to leave out a unique copy of Hold Still.

"Let the search begin!" it says. "We’ve joined @bookfairies_uk for the day to share copies of Hold Still around the UK with you."

As well as the book left out in London by Kate herself, it seems that other special copies have been hidden around the UK...

The caption continues: "Each copy is adorned with a gold book fairy sticker, gold ribbon, and has a letter from The Duchess tucked inside. To make this activity even more special, book fairies, the Hold Still judges and participants of the final 100 images are leaving copies at places that gave them hope during the lockdown."

The Hold Still book, released today, is based on the photography competition that the Duchess of Cambridge launched last year, inviting the nation to submit photographic portraits taken during the first national lockdown. The project aimed to create a unique record of the country's experiences, both shared and personal.

The new book brings together the 100 finalist pictures, selected from 31,000 entries, with funds from sales going to both the National Portrait Gallery and the mental health charity Mind.
