Kate Winslet refused to let a shot of her "bit of belly" be cut out of a sex scene in Mare of Easttown.

The 45-year-old plays Detective Mare Sheehan in the hit HBO show and revealed that she pushed back when director Craig Zobel reassured her he would edit an intimate scene she had with co-star Guy Pearce.

When Kate was told he would remove "a bulgy bit of belly", she fired back, "Don't you dare!"

"Listen, I hope that in playing Mare as a middle-aged woman – I will be 46 in October – I guess that's why people have connected with this character in the way that they have done because there are clearly no filters," she told The New York Times.

The Oscar-winning actress said she wanted to realistically portray every aspect of the character, as she's sick of seeing women being filtered.

"She's a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face that moves in a way that is synonymous with her age and her life and where she comes from. I think we're starved of that a bit," Kate explained.

She also sent back retouched promo posters to HBO bosses and asked them to put them her wrinkles back in.

However, she said she's ready to call it a day with nude scenes, and confessed she's doesn't feel comfortable doing them anymore.

"I think my days are getting a little bit numbered of doing nudity. I'm just not that comfortable doing it anymore. It's not even really an age thing, actually. There comes a point where people are going to go, 'Oh, here she goes again,'" Kate shared.
