Princess Charlotte is celebrating her sixth birthday today and – as is tradition – her mum, the Duchess of Cambridge, has shared a new photo to mark her special day.

Kate is a keen amateur photographer and often releases pictures she has taken of her children to mark milestones, such as birthdays and their first day at school.

The photo of Charlotte was taken earlier this week near Anmer Hall, the Cambridges' Norfolk home on the Queen's Sandringham Estate.

In the new portrait, Kate and William's daughter is wearing a colourful floral dress and a big smile for the camera.

This is the second year in a row that Charlotte will celebrate her birthday at Sandringham.

Last year, the Cambridges were locked down on the Queen's estate – and Kate posted photos she had taken of Charlotte delivering food parcels to vulnerable people nearby to mark her daughter's fifth birthday.

It's been a week of celebrations for Kate and William. On Thursday, they toasted their 10th wedding anniversary by releasing two new portraits and a family video on social media to thank the public for their support.

William – who is President of the Football Association – is taking part in a social media blackout this weekend, organised by those within the game, to highlight racism, abuse and trolling online.
