Fashion folk, permission to be extremely excited: ‘Fendace’ has launched, and it’s every bit as fabulous as you’d imagine.

Donatella Versace and Kim Jones, artistic director of Fendi, swapped roles to create two brilliant, logo-adorned collections inspired by their friendship and affection for their blockbuster brands - just don't call it a collaboration...

'It's a first in the history of fashion,' said Donatella. 'Two designers having a true creative dialogue that stems from respect and friendship.'

The show, which took place on the closing day of Milan fashion week, featured an A-list line-up of models, including Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, Lila Grace Moss and Paloma Elsesser.

They were joined by longtime supers Kate Moss, Amber Valletta and Naomi Campbell, who took to the runway in cut-out minis and a long, slinky chainmail dress respectively and - quite literally - stole the show.

Jones put his mark on Versace by infusing the traditionally glamorous brand with his own inimitable streetwear styling, dressing models in Versace-printed bomber jackets.

Donatella, meanwhile, brought Versace’s sex appeal to Fendi with shimmering metallics and a thumping soundtrack, as Drake, Future and Young Thug blasted out ‘Way 2 Sexy’.

The front row was as star-studded as the catwalk, with Elizabeth Hurley (a longtime Versace fan) and her son, Damian, joining Iris Law, Winnie Harlow, Dua Lipa and Demi Moore to watch the show.

Rumours of the partnership had been circulating since Donatella Versace sent a save-the-date for a special event on Sunday, two days after Versace was due to present its SS22 collection, making it a second event during Milan Fashion Week.

Kim Kardashian West had also teased the collection by posting a photo of herself in July in Rome, flanked by Donatella and Jones, with the caption: 'LEGENDS!!!'

Kim and Donatella join a line of high-end designers who’ve come together on collections, from Gucci’s ‘hacking’ of Balenciaga to Miuccia Prada’s co-design partnership with Raf Simons.

It’s fair to say Donatella has form when it comes to a jaw-dropping show (remember that Versace extravaganza, complete with Linda, Cindy, Naomi et al?) but this one is sure to go down in history. This season, no one did fashion high-drama better.
