Every now and then major moments happen at fashion weeks. And today, when star menswear designer Kim Jones revealed the fruits of his first ever foray into designing womenswear with his debut couture collection for Fendi, was most definitely one of them.

To celebrate the occasion Jones, who was named artistic director of womenswear and couture at Fendi last September, roped in an all-star cast to walk in the audience-free show, which was beamed out live on Fendi’s website and social media channels.

Hitting the runway in a series of showstopping beaded and shimmering gowns came some of the biggest names in modelling: Bella Hadid, Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Moss, Cara Delevigne, Christy Turlington and, to close the show, Naomi Campbell in a hooded metallic floor-swishing silvery cape dress.

The collection was inspired the Bloomsbury Group, a literary set with whom Jones has long had a fascination since he lived, as a child, a short walk from Virginia Woolf’s home Monk’s House in East Sussex.

Models walked through a glass walled maze, before taking their place in an individual glass cubicle, each of which was filled with an edit of rare Bloomsbury Group books and ephemera, curated by Peter Harrington Rare Books.

The Bloomsbury set had a bohemian, free approach to fashion that saw them opt for looser fits and flowing silhouettes at a time when many other women were still wearing corsets. This sartorial free-spiritedness is noted in the collection’s floor-length jacquard capes, billowing silk dresses and metallic sequinned suiting. Elsewhere via sheer, shimmering beaded sheaths and sequinned cape dresses, Jones delivered perfect summer party dresses for couture’s cool-girls.
