Okay, so while the real news here is that Kate Middleton is seemingly moonlighting as a bagel chef now (see below), we also need to discuss her hair.

If you, like me, are a true K-Mid hair stan, you'll notice that at her most recent public appearance in East London, change was afoot. Her colour was...different. And let me tell you - I'm for it.

To catch you up, she's been pretty experimental of late, dabbling in honey blonde, styled into beachy waves. She's been serving up DIY hair cuts, and she's even more recently been opting for the Rachel - a departure from old school Kate's rich, tumbling brunette curls.

The latest development, it seems, is the addition of halo highlights. For the uninitiated, halo highlights are small, face-framing, barely-there chunks of lightened hair around the face which add brightness, while keeping the actual hair itself full of movement thanks to the texture added by the bleach.

You know when you gaze at the subject of your hair envy as the sun bounces off the lightened wisps near their face and find yourself wondering whether they've just spent a week in Bali or if they just have a very clever hair colourist?...Yeah, it's usually the latter.

I could genuinely write you a list as long as Meghan Markle's hair about why halo highlights are A) the best colourist invention known to mankind and B) likely to be everywhere as we transition into more autumnal vibes.

“Halo highlights are the perfect way to keep the illusion of summer brightness around the face without the upkeep and commitment to a full / half head of highlights" says
Zoe Saffron who is colourist and educator and Josh Wood Colour.

"It’s an ideal transition into Autumn / Winter as you can enhance your own natural colour creating more dimension in the hair. This can very easily be maintained at home by trying something like a Josh Wood Colour Gloss.”

Of course, low maintenance isn't a consideration for a Duchess, and so Kate has paired the lighter pieces with other highlights (lucky gal). The resulting look is full of body, reflective, and the perfect transitional hair colour.

Long story short, i'm seething with envy.

What's more, if you're keen to lean into 2020's panelling trend but aren't brave enough to go the whole hog, this is a lovely low-key version of the look.

Deployed correctly, this technique works gorgeously for many hair textures, including straight, coily and curly - it's just a matter of cleverly choosing where to place the brightness to create a 'halo-like' radiance.

Those with coily hair might like to experiment with adding lighter pieces along the perimeter of the hair silhouette to create the radiant 'halo' effect.

Anyone else frantically screengrabbing as we speak?
