Kate Middleton thanks nurses in latest Zoom call
The Duchess of Cambridge has spoken to nurses currently working on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic in a new virtual appearance.
A clip from the video call, shared to Kensington Palace's Instagram account, shows Kate listening to moving stories from members of NHS staff working at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, including one nurse who played a man's favourite song from his phone, and held his hand, as he passed away.
'The amazing things that nurses up and down the country are doing, going the extra mile,' Catherine says at the beginning of the video, as footage of NHS nurses working during the pandemic plays.
The clip then cuts to a Zoom call between Kate and five health workers who talk about the little things they have done to make COVID-19 patients more comfortable at the end when families cannot say goodbye.
Two of the nurses she is chatting to reveal that they retired from the NHS, but have returned to help with the vaccine rollout program.
Kensington Palace captioned the post: 'Nurses up and down the country are going that extra mile, at a time when patients need it the most. These acts of courage, strength and kindness matter so much right now and we owe you a huge thank you for all that you have done and continue to do throughout these difficult times.'
For the appearance, the Duchess opted for a smart and elegant ensemble made up of a tailored blazer and a white shirt with a deep V-neck. Kate also appears to be wearing a new necklace and her Simone Rocha pearl earrings.
You might notice that the background looks a little different to the Cambridges' usual Zoom calls at Anmer Hall on the Sandringham Estate, where the family are currently spending lockdown.
That's because this video call took place at the Queen's residence on the estate, Sandringham House which William and Kate are using for work meetings at the moment. They've definitely made the place their own; photos of George, Charlotte and Louis can be seen on the mantelpiece, along with two large houseplants.
Like the rest of us, Kate hasn't been able to get to the salon recently, and her hair appears to have grown much longer. But she's done a great job of styling it herself for the call.
The Duchess of Cambridge is a patron for the Nurses Now campaign, which advocates for those working on the frontline.
