ICYMI (how!?), the headlines have been dominated over the last few days by the many, many allegations that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made against the monarchy – first in their Netflix docu-series, then in an interview Harry gave to ITV to promote his just-released memoir, Spare. The Sussexes' claims include that Prince William physically attacked his brother, that the Prince and Princess of Wales "stereotyped" their new sister-in-law and that the Royal Family "planted" stories in the press. Yep, drama.
With all that going on, it's no surprise that Kate opted for a low-key birthday, and she's reported to have spent a quiet day celebrating with her husband and their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Notably, in a break from tradition, the Prince and Princess of Wales did not post on social media to mark the birthday. Last year, for example, they shared a series of portraits that'd been commissioned to celebrate Kate's 40th birthday.
For other royals, it was business as usual, with King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla sharing a photo of Kate meeting a royal fan on their Instagram Story. "Wishing the Princess of Wales a very happy birthday today!" the post, which was their first since Harry's ITV interview, read.
We wonder if Kate received a birthday card in the post from the Sussexes...
