During the last year of lockdowns, many of us took on new projects and hobbies, and the Duchess of Cambridge was no different. She teamed up with the National Portrait Gallery (of which she is the royal patron) to create the community photography project Hold Still, which asked people around the UK to submit photos showing the realities of their lives during the coronavirus pandemic to create a ‘unique collective portrait of the UK during lockdown.’

Out of 31,000 entries, 100 photos were selected for a digital exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery.

Now, those entries have been turned into a new photography book Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020, and to celebrate the duchess herself has started a treasure hunt around the capital.

According to Prince William and Kate Middleton's social media accounts, the Duchess spent last Friday morning (7th May) teaming up with the Book Fairies, an international network of book lovers who leave books around the world for others to find, to hide copies of Hold Still in various places around the UK.

150 copies of the special coffee table book, which already includes a a special foreword written by the Duchess of Cambridge herself, have been hidden around London, each 'adorned with a gold book fairy sticker, gold ribbon, and has a letter from The Duchess tucked inside.'

Hold Still costs £24.95 with the proceeds of the book being split between the National Portrait Gallery and the mental health charity Mind. If you don't manage to find one of the special copies hidden around the UK, the book is now available for purchase in UK bookstores and at the National Portrait Gallery website.

Captured hiding the books in various videos on social media, Kate can be seen wearing a long scarlet coat from Eponine London.

The London boutique is a favourite of the mother-of-three's, who previously wore a £1,650 coat and a top and skirt costing £1,200 from the brand in 2016.
