It sounds as though Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal tour of Scotland has been jam-packed (and in amongst their duties they also found time for a sneaky date night, which is rather sweet). It's also thrown up some very funny moments, such as Kate being asked by a child whether or not she was 'the Prince' and the Duchess's reaction to hearing that the Duke was propositioned during a visit to a care home.
Hopping on a video call with actresses Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, ahead of a special screening of their new movie, Cruella, for NHS staffers, the Duke recounted the story. "Can we talk about hugging?" asked Emma Thompson, to which William replied, "I got propositioned by a 96-year-old lady called Betty yesterday who wanted to kiss me."
He added, "She's in a care home with her daughter and I said 'Betty, if I do that I'm going to get slapped on the back of the head for inappropriate social distancing' and she said 'I'll have you afterwards then!'... She was a right character!"
Kate, who joined the tour a few days after her husband, then laughed and said, "This is what happens when I'm not around!" Prince William then nodded and said, "She saw her way in."
A snippet of the video call was shared on Twitter by royal correspondent Omid Scobie, known for co-authoring a biography about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship. He captioned the clip: "Ahead of hosting a special drive-in movie screening of Disney’s @Cruella at the Palace of Holyroodhouse for NHS staff and frontliners, @NHSCharities Together patrons Prince William and Duchess Kate held a video call on Monday with cast members Emma Thompson and Emma Stone."
During the call, the royals also praised frontline workers and Kate said it had been especially poignant speaking to members of staff who had fallen ill with COVID-19 themselves. "They felt bad that they were letting their teammates down and they weren't there," she explained. "It's an amazing work ethic and they just went above and beyond - and still do, obviously."
The Duke also joked with Emma Stone after she said that during the filming of Cruella, she hopped on a motorbike and filmed scenes outside of Buckingham Palace. "We should've had you stopped," Prince William said, in a mock serious tone.
