The sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II has brought with it many changes across the nation, including a change of monarch and a national mourning period to commemorate the late queen's eventful and significant life.

Queen Elizabeth's death has also created a shift in the line of succession, resulting in a change of titles and duties for many in the Royal Family. Among those impacted have been Prince William and his wife, formerly known as Kate Middleton. Previously, their official titles were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (though they were also known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn while in Scotland, or Baron and Lady Carrickfergus when in Northern Ireland).

However, in light of recent events they were granted new titles: in King Charles' first speech following his mother's passing, he explained that they would be the Prince and Princess of Wales. While the title "Prince of Wales" is an honour bestowed upon the heir apparent, the last Princess of Wales was William's late mother, Princess Diana, so the change of title must be particularly significant for the couple.

And it's clear the new Prince and Princess of Wales are eager to approach their new roles and duties with the utmost respect, with a source speaking to The Mirror to reveal their response to the changes.

"The couple are focussed on deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time. The Prince and Princess of Wales will approach their roles in the modest and humble way they’ve approached their work previously," the source said.

Speaking specifically about Kate's new title and the history behind it, the source revealed; "The new Princess of Wales appreciates the history associated with this role but will understandably want to look to the future as she creates her own path.”

We wish the best of luck to the Prince and Princess of Wales during this time of transition and our condolences are with them and their family.
