Updated article on 25/01/2021: Kate Middleton And Prince William have reportedly welcomed an eight-month-old puppy to their family.

In a report by the The Mail on Sunday, a source revealed that the Cambridges received an eight-month-old black puppy as gift from the Duchess’s brother James Middleton. The dog is believed to have arrived at Anmer Hall, the family’s home in Norfolk, soon after the tragic passing of their family dog, Lupo, in November last year.

‘The new puppy is adorable and the whole family are besotted,’ a friend told the outlet.

‘They were devastated when Lupo passed away, as any dog owner will understand, but got the new puppy before he died. It was hoped that a younger dog would give Lupo some company and give him a little more life and energy.’

There is yet to be an official statement about the reported addition to the family.

In July last year, the mother-of-three's brother and his fiancée Alizee Thevenet shared pictures on Instagram in July of themselves with six puppies, alongside his spaniels Ella, Inca, Luna and Zulu and golden retriever Mabel.

Original article published on 23/11/20: Prince William and Kate Middleton have announced the passing of their beloved family dog, Lupo over the weekend.

The black cocker spaniel - whose name is Italian for 'wolf' - was welcomed into the family nine months after their wedding in April of 2011.

He was reportedly a comfort to Kate while William was away on a six-week deployment to the Falkland Islands.

The family made the announcement of the family pets passing's on the Kensington Royal Instagram account on Sunday November 22nd. The caption explained that Lupo died last weekend.

'Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away,' they wrote. 'He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much'. - W & C

The furry addition was actually the result of a familiar connection, through the Duchess of Cambridge's brother James Middleton. Lupo was the son of James's dog, Ella, and the brother of his other dogs, Zulu, Inka, and Luna.

James Middleton, who is also a proud 'dog dad', also took to Instagram to express his sadness over the Cambridge's loss.

'Nothing can ever prepare you for the loss of a dog,' he wrote.

'For those who have never had a dog, it might be hard to understand the loss. However for those who have loved a dog know the truth: a dog is not just a pet; it is a member of the family, a best friend, a loyal companion, a teacher and a therapist. Many people over the years have reached out to me about the pain of loosing a dog and for most, the loss of a dog is, in almost every way comparable to the loss of a Human loved one'
