The Duchess of Cambridge made a stunning return to the public eye in London last night.

Kate Middleton was the toast of the night at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, taking to the stage to present the evening's most prestigious awards.

Looking the picture of health in an elegant, Alexander McQueen olive gown complete with bell sleeves split to reveal her toned pins, the Duchess dazzled as she took to the stage alongside David Beckham.

With a flush to her cheeks, Kate beamed at the star-studded crowd - where the likes of Jessica Ennis, Bradley Wiggins and a whole host of British sporting talent were watching - as she made her striking entrance.

Kate, who was hospitalised recently after battling hyperemesis gravidarum - a rare form of morning sickness - looked to be past the worst of the illness as she chatted to the winners.

After awarding Lord Coe with his lifetime achievement accolade, Prince William's wife stood on stage as he made his speech - before giving out the gong for Sports Personality of the Year to Bradley Wiggins.

First she presented heptathlete gold medallist Jess Ennis with her runner-up trophy, before giving the top prize to the British cyclist.

Kate, who was showing off her now trademark voluminous blow-dry, teamed her striking McQueen gown with a simple, gold pendant necklace.

The fitted dress, which featured structured pockets and a V-neckline, hugged the royal's toned figure - but revealed no sign of a baby bump just yet.

Kate's decision to honour the engagement after being forced to cancel a whole host of public appearances is a sure sign the 30-year-old is on the road to recovery.

According to reports, Kate was only allowed to stay at the event for 45 minutes, before returning home to continue her recovery.
