Kate Middleton proved she's still in the grip of a love affair with lace as she recycled a Temperley gown at a St Andrews University fundraising gala last night.

The Duchess of Cambridge was all smiles as she stepped out in the elegant, floor-scraping couture gown, just 11 months after she first donned the dress for the War Horse premiere.

With a demure V-neckline and 3/4-length sleeves, the gown highlighted perfectly Kate's slim figure - with a thin black velvet belt showing off her trim waistline.

Making sure to update her look for the season, Kate shunned the black accessories she wore the first time around and instead opted for a pillarbox-red and gold clutch, complete with a sparkling poppy pin.

With her hair in tousled waves around her shoulders, she kept the rest of her accessories to a minimum for the outing with Prince William - letting her dress do all the talking.

The royal couple were supporting the University's 600th Anniversary Appeal at London's Middle Temple Hall, which aims to provide financial support for students who would otherwise not be able to study at the university.

And it's a cause close to both of their hearts, as St Andrews is of course where the pair first met in 2005.

Kate's appearance at last night's fundraising gala revealed she's still a fan of the elegant lace trend - a key look for the upcoming festive party season.

The Duchess has of course been working the look for some time now, stepping out in a number of lace frocks since Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen designed her stunning wedding dress.
