The Kate Middleton Effect? Buy The Beulah Dress She Wore On Far East Tour At Harvey Nichols

There has been a lot of question about whether the Kate Middleton effect actually exists. Jane Shepherdson, the CEO of Whistles, was the first to say that Kate Middleton does nada for sales. Take the blouse she wore to her official engagement portrait, it may have got Whistles buckets of publicity, but the design was two years old and not available to buy so it didn't translate into actual sales.

Then Roland Mouret said earlier this week that 'The kind of people who like Kate’s style are not the kind to rush out and copy her dress,' the Frenchman says. 'You don’t see hundreds of women running around looking like her. To be honest, we’re more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian’s worn.' Wowza, strong words.

Kate is a fan of recycling and wearing designs from years ago, which stops copycats rushing out to buy her wardrobe. But you can now buy one of her most iconic dresses from her Far East Jubilee Tour - the gorge powder blue knee length silk chiffon Beulah dress with billowing sleeves she wore with a matching headscarf she wore to visit the Assyakirin Mosque in Kuala Lumpur. The sheer buttoned up dress got lots of attention as it looked just like an outfit Diana wore to visit a hospital in Lahore in 1996.

So if you have a spare £540 lying around, you can buy it online exclusively at Harvey Nichols or Beulah's online store and look like K Midz. Kate is a big fan of Beulah and the founders Lavinia and Natasha spoke to Grazia about when she was first spotted in one of their designs - red floor-length gowns. ‘We didn’t know that she was going to wear it!’ they said. ‘She bought it about eight or nine months ago, and has kept it in her wardrobe and I guess she just decided that it was right for that occasion.’

It seems designers have all wisened to the fact that the way to benefit from the Kate effect is to re-release old designs - Rebecca Taylor brought back their navy blue jacket and skirt and Reiss re-released the dress from their fall 2009 collection that Kate wore in her engagement photos.

So will you rush to Harvey Nics and buy the Beulah dress?
