Kate Middleton paid her respects at today's Remembrance Sunday service in a military-inspired coat she has previously worn to the same event.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 39, appeared at the Cenotaph in London, shortly after Buckingham Palace announced the Queen was unable to attend.

Kate stood on alongside Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, as members of the royal family and senior politicians laid wreaths in front of thousands of veterans.

The mother-of-three paired the Alexander McQueen design – which features a white collar and red detailing on the shoulders – with a black wide-brimmed hat by Lock and Company.

Prince William's wife also wore a pair of pearl-drop earrings and a brooch from the Royal British Legion with three red poppies pinned on.

She first wore the coat in 2018, when she teamed it with a smaller black hat from Lock and Company and Cassandra Goad cluster pearl earrings.

On that occasion, the duchess appeared on the balcony with the Queen and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Last year, she wore a similar all-black military-style design by the same British brand, along with a black Philip Treacy hat.

Kate has frequently been turning back to old outfits of late for official events.

On Saturday night, she re-wore a black midi-dress for the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

The design, by Eponine London, first made an appearance in February 2020 on a visit to the Noel Coward Theatre.

However, rather than a pair of sparkly silver heels as for that occasion, this time she opted for a pair of black shoes instead.

Sunday's service at the Cenotaph, to honour those who have died in conflict, was due to be the Queen's first official public appearance in several weeks.

She had been advised by doctors to rest, after undergoing medical checks in hospital last month.

However, it was announced this morning that the 95-year-old monarch would be unable to attend after spraining her back.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen, having sprained her back, has decided this morning with great regret that she will not be able to attend today's Remembrance Sunday Service at the Cenotaph.

"Her Majesty is disappointed that she will miss the service."
