Kate Middleton breaks silence on absence from major Trooping the Colour event

Kate Middleton has broken her silence on missing the Colonel's Review rehearsal for the Trooping the Colour in a heartfelt letter. The Princess of Wales would traditionally have taken the salute at the event on Saturday, 8 June, in her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, however she will be absent this year as she is undergoing treatment following her cancer diagnosis.

Kate, 42, will instead be replaced by Lieutenant General James Bucknall at the Colonel's Review, which is the official rehearsal for Trooping The Colour, scheduled to take place on 15 June. The Irish Guards shared a photograph of the letter Kate penned to them on their official X account.

The letter reads: "I wanted to write to let you know how proud I am of the entire regiment ahead of the Colonel's Review and Trooping the Colour. I appreciate everyone Trooping this year has been practising for months, and dedicating many hours to ensure their uniforms and drill are immaculate.

"Being your Colonel remains a great honour, and I am very sorry that I am unable to take the salute at this year's Colonel Review. Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment, however, I do hope I can represent you all again soon. Please send my very best wishes and good luck to all involved."

Kate finished the letter by handwriting the Irish Guards' motto Quis Separabit, which means 'Who shall separate us?' and signs it 'Colonel Catherine'.

The Irish Guards' account captioned the post: "The Irish Guards were deeply touched to receive a letter from our Colonel, Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales this morning. We continue to wish Her Royal Highness well in her recovery and send Her our very best wishes."

It was recently confirmed by Royal officials that Kate will not be attending the Colonel's Review due to her on-going health battle. The Princess of Wales has been absent from the public eye since January, having undergone abdominal surgery before announcing she is having treatment for cancer.

Reports have since emerged claiming Kate is considering walking onto the famous balcony at Trooping The Colour on 15 June, should she be feeling well enough. The Palace is yet to comment on whether Kate will be attending the annual event, which is King Charles' official birthday celebration, but it seems unlikely she will make an appearance.
