Kate Garraway was in great spirits as she returned for her second day at Smooth Radio this week.

The Good Morning Britain presenter is set to mark a milestone this week, celebrating her 16th anniversary with husband Derek Draper on Friday 10 September.

According to her friend and fellow presenter Clare Nasir, the occasion is going to be a bittersweet one for the couple. Clare recently told Closer magazine, “Kate has to live day to day with Derek because she doesn’t know what’s going to happen in 24 hours, let alone further than that.”

She continued, “I’m sure she’s got things she’d want to do but she doesn’t want to tempt fate. That’s why her anniversary will be so bittersweet, because planning is so hard for them."

Kate and Derek were introduced by their mutual friend Gloria De Piero and dated for a year before marrying on the 10th September 2005. The couple are parents to two children, Darcey 15, and Billy, 11.

This anniversary will undoubtedly be better than last year, when Derek was still incredibly sick in hospital and unable to receive any visitors.

Last year Kate was heartbroken she couldn’t see him and said, “We Facetimed him and me and the children raised a glass and said 'Happy Anniversary.’”

It's been five months since Derek returned to his family home after spending more than a year in hospital, and he now requires round-the-clock care.
