Kate Garraway has shared a clip of her bittersweet holiday with her family in Cornwall, which she had to take without her husband Derek.

The Good Morning Britain presenter described the trip as "paradise" as her children and parents enjoyed a game of football with family members they haven't been able to see since 2019 due to the pandemic, with the beautiful backdrop of the sun setting across the sea.

Kate also thanked both her parents-in-law and sisters-in-law for travelling to her home in London to look after Derek so she could have a break, while also crediting the nurses who continue to give her husband around the clock care as he recovers from the damage Covid-19 has caused to his body.

"Thanks to the wonderful mum dad & sisters draper for coming down to be with Derek (with nurses too of course) so I could take my mum dad, Darcey & Billy to Cornwall," Kate wrote in the caption. "And thanks so so much to @peugeotuk for lending us a car to get us there! We got to see my brother aunts uncles cousins & new baby cousins! None of us have been able to get to see each other since Xmas 2019 . So much love & v emotional - not that it made our annual football match any less competitive!!! Hope you have all had a great half term."

Derek returned home in April after being admitted to intensive care with coronavirus during the first lockdown, and remaining in hospital for about a year as a result of the virus.

Kate recently updated the public on Derek's condition, explaining that he still "can't really move, his communication is very minimal".

"There are moments where there's up, you feel you know he's in there. He has a lot of memory," the TV star told The Andrew Marr Show. "But the accessing of it is very limited. He's a long way from the Derek Draper that you know, Andrew, but he's home and he's alive, he's asleep now."

Kate and Derek have two children together - Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12.
