Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway has spoken about the kindness of viewers after they offered to lend her their cars when her family Volvo was stolen.

The TV host told co-host Ben Shephard that she was "blown away" by their generosity during a difficult week.

Kate, whose husband Derek is still battling Covid-19 in hospital, said it has been a particularly "tough" week for him.

Speaking about the messages she has received from fans, she said: "They've been unbelievably nice, and it's been a bit of a tough old week for Derek so I haven't got back to anybody.

"But it's so lovely – some viewers are offering to lend me their cars!

She explained that the car, named 'Vicky Volvo', was the first car they had as a family with [daughter] Darcey, "so it's a real shame."

Kate went on to share that a nurse at the hospital where Derek is being treated also had her car stolen recently.

"She'd finished her shift, came back and her car had been stolen. She must have just been at the end of her tether with exhaustion.

"I know times are tough and people turn to things they shouldn't do, but honestly, it is heartbreaking isn't it. It's an intrusion, it's something that's yours, and in the case of somebody like a nurse or people at the end of their tether, it's not good."

Meanwhile, co-host Ben reassured Kate's fans that while the stolen car hadn't been returned, the situation had now been "fixed".
