Kate Garraway says husband Derek Draper had health 'scare' over Christmas

Kate Garraway has revealed her husband Derek Draper suffered a health "scare" that could've seen him back in hospital over Christmas.

It comes as the presenter's spouse moved back into the family home earlier this year following a serious battle with COVID that left him hospitalised for months.

Sharing news of the ordeal at the weekend, Garraway said Draper their two children, Darcey and Billy, experienced a "bumpy" day.

"So the last 24 hours has been bumpy - a scare that meant Derek might have had to go back into hospital ( thankfully sorted by a visit from nurse/carer) , he has also had one of his ultra fatigue days so has been too weak to do much other than sleep, " the 58-year-old posted to Instagram.

"I burnt the parsnips ( Darceys favourite ) & got the “wrong” Lego for Billy. But now snuggled up around Dad’s bed watching Nativity everything feels suddenly perfect.

"Feel so grateful to have the chance to be together . Sending love & hoping you have found some joy today whatever your circumstances - #merrychristmas all!"

Garraway posted a photo of her children aside their father as he lay in bed.

Draper still requires round-the-clock care at home after contracting COVID-19 and being put on a ventilator last year.

In a recent interview with Piers Morgan for Life Stories, Garraway said the illness had impacted his digestive system, liver, kidneys, heart, nervous system and brain, adding that he still can't communicate.

Although she did add that Draper “will have moments of clarity”.

Garraway showed the family’s struggles in ITV documentary Finding Derek earlier this year.

The programme won the prize for best authored documentary at the National Television Awards in September, with Garraway dedicating her award to Draper.
