Two days ago, Meghan Markle decided to go bright and bold with her sartorial choice for a visit to Birkenhead on Monday. Bright purple? Check. Equally bright red winter coat? Yep, you betcha.

And now another royal is clearly undeterred by the January blues and generally wanting to dress in head-to-toe black. Enter Kate Middleton, who has just stepped out in a vibrant Oscar de la Renta skirt-suit combo, costing £2,700. She's also holding a black croc Aspinal of London bag (£495).

The Duchess of Cambridge is visiting the costume department at The Royal Opera House to learn more about their use of textiles, commissioning of fabrics and supply chain.

Like Meghan earlier this week, the colour appears to be (another) direct nod to Princess Diana. Harry's mother was clearly a huge fan of wearing purple and red together, having donned the pairing multiple times during her life.

It's also not the first time Kate has worn this skirt-suit outfit - she sported the same combo in 2017 when attending the UK Guild of Health Writers conference with Prince William.

Both pieces are from the Fall 2015 collection, crafted of a stretch wool boucle. The three-quarter sleeve tailored jacket features a fitted bodice with a pleated, flared hem.

Today's visit will allow Kate, 37, to find out more about the scale of the department’s work and how different textiles influence various costumes.

A Kensington Palace aide said: 'The textile and manufacturing industry is an area of interest to The Duchess.

'Her Royal Highness’ great-great-grandfather, Francis Martineau Lupton, was a mill owner who ran the family’s successful textile manufacturing business, William Lupton & Company, with his three brothers.'

Later today, the Duchess of Sussex will for the first time officially visit Mayhew, one of the charities she announced a patronage of last week.

The Duchess of Cambridge yesterday visited King Henry’s Walk Garden in north London.

It was her first public outing of 2019 and she wore 2019's hiking boot trend impeccably by matching it with a colour blocking combination of khaki jeans and a short tweed jacket by Irish brand Dubarry.

The See by Chloé boots in question mark a more relaxed shift in sartorial choice from the typically classic looks Kate so often masters which have recently featured 80s style headbands and smart coats.

During the visit, she met with members of the community to hear about how the project is bringing different people from the area together.
