Not a day goes by this week without Karl Lagerfeld, or Queen Karl as he has decided would be a more fitting title, making headlines. First he surprised us with an unexpected collaboration with Snoop Dogg and then he wowed us with a sumptuous Chanel Cruise 2013 collection in Versailles on Monday. Sheesh Karl, over-achiever much? And now Karl is back with more gems of wisdom courtesy of a recent interview with The Telegraph this week. As always, the ponytailed wonder does not disappoint. Here are our highlights...Cara Delevigne walks at the Chanel Cruise 2013 show
Karl on Brit models…
“Quick-minded little girls like this; they do not exist in France. Not anymore. If they are funny then they are not French." Waxing lyrical about our home-grown ladies Georgia May Jagger and Cara Delevingne? Oh yes, we approve of that Mr L.
Karl on his nickname “King Karl”
"In fashion we have more queens than kings." A wonderfully concise observation, non?
Karl on the Queen’s Jubilee
"England would not be the same without the Royal Family. If there are scandals, who cares? The Queen is like a monument and England without royalty would have less tourists." Like he did for the Royal Wedding last year, Karl will be doing the commentary for the Queen's Jubilee on French television. And we except there's be a few gems in there...*fishes out French/English dictionary*
Karl on Cannes' red carpet parade
"The movies shown today are unrelated to the girls on the red carpet. It is grotesque… and you think of the Visconti movies, there was glamour in them. Now, everyone is bought… Most of them (the actresses) have contracts [to wear the clothes]."
Karl on the Prada vs Schiaparelli exhibition
"I am against museums and exhibitions in fashion. One woman said to me - "In my world, the world of art" - so I said: "Oh, don't you make dresses any more?" If you call yourself an artist, then you are second-rate."
Karl on Chanel's Cruise 2013 collection
“Maybe 99 per cent of the people who see the clothes will never own them, but they can buy the lipstick or the perfume." A harsh but fair financial analysis from Mr Lagerfeld - as ever.
Karl on his passion for books
"I am a brain-bodybuilder. Schwarzenegger of the brain." We couldn't have put it better ourselves...
