Kanye West celebrates 44th birthday by releasing first piece from Yeezy Gap collection

Kanye West celebrated his 44th birthday by releasing the first piece from his Yeezy Gap collaboration.

The collaboration between the Flashing Lights rapper and the high street chain was announced last year, and on Tuesday, Kanye dropped his first design from the hotly-anticipated collection.

The oversized unisex blue puffer-style jacket is priced at $200 (£141), and dubbed the Round Jacket.

It features no zips or buttons, is made from recycled nylon and includes the Yeezy Gap logo, and is slightly cropped, indicating that the piece is meant to be worn open, not closed.

Kanye teased the release of the jacket earlier this month, when he stepped out in Los Angeles wearing the puffer in the scorching heat, while wearing an unusual face covering that covered his whole head.

The surprise drop will be accompanied by a similar campaign the rapper used to promote his Yeezus album in 2013, and floating projections of the coat will pop up in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, according to Page Six Style.

Back in May, Business of Fashion reported that Yeezy Gap would be released in June.

The 10-year deal with Gap is reportedly worth almost $1 billion (£705 million), and when the collab was announced in 2020, it promised to deliver modern classics for all, at an affordable price point.

It's not yet known when other pieces from the collection will be released.
