Justin Hartley tapped to voice animated Superman

This Is Us star Justin Hartley is jumping into action to voice Superman in the Injustice: Gods Among Us animated movie.

The actor will take on the superhero role opposite Hell on Wheels' Anson Mount as Batman, while Spider-Man series voice artist Laura Bailey has been cast as Lois Lane.

Also featured will be Oliver Hudson as Plastic Man, Gillian Jacobs as Harley Quinn, Kevin Pollak as Joker, Anika Noni Rose as Catwoman, and Reid Scott as Green Arrow.

The DC Animated Movie project is an adaptation of the video game of the same name, which pitted famed DC Comics characters against one another in fights to the death. The 2013 release became so popular with fans, it spawned various comic books, and is now providing inspiration for a film version.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie takes place on an alternate Earth, where Superman has been tricked by the Joker into killing his love interest Lane, sending the superhero off the edge.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is expected to be released on the small screen later this year.

Hartley is no stranger to the world of superheroes – he previously played Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on Smallville from 2006 to 2011, while he also filmed a TV pilot from Smallville series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar for an Aquaman project which never came to fruition.
