I Looked Through All the Black Friday Sales to Find the Best Deals Out There

Emily Dawes

It’s that time of year again. No, we’re not talking about the upcoming festivities quite yet, pause that Michael Buble album for now. Today is Black Friday and it’s highly likely you’ve already been bombarded with offers through your inbox, tv screens and social platforms alike, with brands kicking off their deals all throughout this week. This U.S tradition (always the day after Thanksgiving) has well and truly made its way across the pond to bring us thousands of pre-Christmas discounts to get our purses stuck into.

Yes, sales are great on paper, but we all know how overwhelming it can be. With every brand under the sun getting involved now, it’s hard to know where to start and what to spend that hard-earned cash on. Not to worry, that’s our job. This week we’re here to help edit down the deals and bring you the best buys to focus on, so you don’t end up with a pair of purple glittery heels you’ll never wear, just because they were 50% off.

I was tasked with heading down to four key stores, Topshop, & Other Stories, Joseph, and Harvey Nichols, who all have excellent Black Friday offers, to try on the best pieces I could find. My approach was this— go for classic, timeless pieces you’ll never regret, things you’ve had on your wishlist for a while, or statement, high quality items that were previously a little out of your price range like leather, cashmere and designer bags.

Keep scrolling to see and shop what I, as a fashion editor, will be buying this Black Friday and for my top sale shopping tips. Be quick though, these will be sure to sell out fast.

Deal: 25% off everything (yes everything) now. Add an extra 10% off online with the code EXTRA10, today only

Best for: Coats, denim, suits and boots.

A checked coat will never go out of style. This is such a warm staple.

Topshop Black And White Check Coat (£67)

Real leather in Topshop is always a little bit pricier but worth it for the quality. This is the perfect chance to invest in this leather shirt which can be worn alone or open as a jacket.

Don't overlook the denim, their 'straight' style is currently my favourite to wear and I love this darker shade for winter.

Topshop Black Leather Shirt (£127)

Topshop Black Raw Hem Straight Jeans (£30)

Topshop do great suits, especially if you're of the more petite height like me (I'm 5'2). This camel style is a classic and can be worn together or separately to get more bang for your buck.

Topshop Camel Double Breasted Blazer (£37)

Topshop Camel Suit Trousers (£23)

Black Friday is definitely the time to invest in a good coat if you have made it this far without one. I love the chic utility vibe of this one

Topshop Khaki Utility Trench Coat (£67)

I've had my eye on this jacket ever since seeing Lucy Williams in hers. Black Friday is a great chance to shop premium lines like Topshop's Boutique collection, which becomes more affordable with the discount.

Topshop Boutique Indigo Denim Jacket (£45)

A great pair of black, Western style ankle boots will never go unworn.

Topshop Honour Leather Western Boots (£67)

Deal: Up to 50% off selected pieces, from Friday.

Best for: Investment leather, knits and cashmere.

Stop everything. I've found the perfect biker jacket. Adds to Christmas list immediately.

Joseph Biker Leather Ryder Jacket (£497)

In a dream world, all I would wear is Joseph. The knits tick all of the boxes and this heavenly cashmere coat would literally be your bff— best friend forever.

Joseph High Neck Sloppy Joe Knit (£172)

Joseph Signe Pure Cashmere Coat (£872)

Can you tell by my smile in this picture that I just found my dream jumper? I, and pretty much anyone I know, would wear this over and over again. It's such a wardrobe staple. I tried the grey on but also love the navy below.

Joseph V Neck Cashmere Luxe Knit (£222)

Another chic wardrobe classic from Joseph in the perfect shade of camel. I sized up here for a slightly more roomy feel.

Joseph V Neck Cashair Knit (£117)

& Other Stories

Deal: 20% off everything with code NOIR20, early access from today.

Best for: Dresses, chic basics, knitwear.

If you plan on buying only one party dress this season, make it this one. Perfect for the office, office Christmas party, Christmas Day, Christmas Eve in the pub, cocktails with friends.... need I go on? This came straight to the till with me.

& Other Stories Printed Ruffle Bib Midi Dress (£76)

In my search for timeless classics, I tried on these wide leg black trousers and was surprised by how not-boring they were. I loved this Victoria Beckham-like ensemble which proves my point that Stories has the best chic separates.

& Other Stories Oversized Pearl Button Cotton Shirt (£52)

& Other Stories Tailored Relaxed Trousers (£60)

I've heard many a fashion insider talk about the greatness of & Other Stories' silk blouses. They cost a little more than your average so now is the perfect time to snap one up. I also love the jeans from here, they do a great, stiff denim, straight leg (this pair) in a range of shades.

& Other Stories Straight Fit Silk Shirt (£76)

& Other Stories Straight Mid Rise Jeans (£48)

No one can deny how great the knitwear is from this high street favourite. I'll be topping up my basics collection today with this grey roll neck. If, like me, you've been thinking about these leather trousers ever since I tried them on in October, now's the time to bite the bullet and invest.

& Other Stories High Neck Sweater (£44)

& Other Stories Leather Kick Flare Trousers (£212)

I couldn't help but try on this pearly knit. It's a twist on a classic that I would bring out at this time, year after year.

& Other Stories Pearl Embellished Knitted Sweater (£68)

We all know Stories do a great blazer. This grey belted number will be the next style added to my collection. You just can't go wrong.

& Other Stories Square Buckle Belted Blazer (£132)

Harvey Nichols

Deal: Up to 40% off fashion.

Best for: Accessories (especially bags) and statement showstoppers.

This is the designer bag I've been dreaming of since seeing it pop up all over fashion month this September, and the Black Friday deal makes it far more affordable.

Wandler Georgia Printed Calf Hair Top Handle Bag (£511)

Another Wandler classic. This top handle bag can also be worn as a cross body and will be chic for many seasons to come.

Wandler Yara Monochrome Leather Top Handle Bag (£539)

Staud is one of our favourite, more affordable, contemporary brands. In the sale, this doesn't cost much more than a high street bag so take the opportunity to get something a little more special with this snakeskin number.

Staud Shirley Snake-Effect Leather Top Handle Bag (£189)

OK, I know I said invest in classics, but that doesn't have to mean boring. This showstopper party dress from Retrofete isn't just for Christmas. Wear with knee high boots now and strappy sandals for a summer event, year after year.

Retrofête Gabrielle Striped Sequin Wrap Dress (£363)

Black Friday is also a time to bag bargains from your favourite designer labels. Anything from Isabel Marant will get better with age and this extra special sweatshirt will get worn again and again - it's all about the cost per wear right?

Isabel Marant Valia Black Sequin-Embellished Sweatshirt (£855)

Next up: These are the best party dresses around.
