When it comes to his runway shows, Julien Macdonald sticks to what he does best. And rightly so, as the Welsh designer’s now-famous approach to design wins over the A-list every time.

Regardless of the season, it comes as no surprise to see models step out in figure-clenching body-cons and corset-effect dresses. But for SS18, Julien ramped up the energy and looked to the model set to help.

Backstage, hair stylist Adam Reed revealed to Yahoo Style that the aim was to go against the natural look and instead return to fashion month’s supermodel roots. A bold move, with many designers turning to barely-there (Insta-ready) makeup on the runway.

And what better way to stress old school supermodel glamour than recruiting Winnie Harlow, Martha Hunt and Alessandra Ambrosio (who was wearing an exclusively designed dress by CÎROC) to walk the show?

In the age of social media, anyone with an iPhone can become famous. And fashion month as evolved with the times. Celebrity offspring and the Insta-famous are now big players in the industry. Just take a look at the heavy coverage of Kaia Gerber’s first fashion week for instance or the A-list kids hitting the after-parties. We’re looking at you Lennon Gallagher and Iris Law…

And the atmosphere on the runway reflected the forgotten spirit of London Fashion Week, as Julien brought his girls in for a group hug and cheerily waved to the crowd during the finale.

Decked in heavy fringing and sheer jumpsuits, Julien’s model pack wouldn’t have looked out of place in a nightclub. And the confetti ending only ramped up the spectacle. After-party at his?
