Ozark star Julia Garner has officially responded to the postponed Madonna biopic.

It was announced that Garner would portray the Material Girl last year, having reportedly beat out a number of other actresses vying for the role, including Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Alexa Demie (Euphoria), Odessa Young (The Stand) and Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown).

In January, however, it was revealed that the long-awaited film had been indefinitely postponed by Universal Pictures because Madonna, who was set to direct, decided to concentrate on her upcoming tour instead.

Despite this, Garner seemed fairly optimistic when asked if she thought the movie would ever come to fruition.

"Yeah, yeah," she told Entertainment Tonight at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty on Sunday night (March 12). "I don't want to tell too much. I want to keep things... yeah, fingers crossed."

Madonna previously said that she'd agreed to license her story for a biopic in order to properly "convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world".

"The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive," the 'Like a Prayer' singer continued. "There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It's essential to share the rollercoaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."

It was reported that the actresses in the running to play Madonna had been put through several, lengthy choreography workshops, script readings and vocal auditions that were overseen by Madonna herself.

Tickets for Madonna's world tour are available in the US and the UK on Ticketmaster.
