Ever since the Netflix drama based on the crimes of con-artist Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) was announced we've been eagerly-awaiting any news surrounding the show. Written by Shonda Rhimes and starring the cast of dreams, Inventing Anna is set to be right up our street.
This week, Ozark star Julia Garner who will play the lead role of Anna in the Netflix drama, gave an interview in which she said that in order to prepare for the role she had been to see Anna in prison.
Garner flew to Buffalo in New York to meet Anna who is still serving out her four-to-eight-year sentence for larceny and theft at the Albion Correctional Facility, during production for the show which has since been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Garner said, "It got super meta because she's like, 'So how are you playing me?' Garner says. "I said, 'Well, you're very complex. Your accent's really hard.' She's like, 'Oh my God, how do you sound like me? You have to do it.' She just was freaking out."
Elsewhere in the interview Garner described Anna as a "genius," saying, "She might be the hardest character I've ever played... She's a genius. You can't judge your characters. I want people to understand why she did this."
Inventing Anna will tell the story of how Anna Delvey - real name Anna Sorokin - managed to trick some of New York's wealthiest socialites into believing she was a billionaire heiress. Pretending she had access to a $60 million trust fund, she managed to hire a private jet, went to the most exclusive parties and lived out of a luxury New York hotel. In reality, Anna had no trust fund and she was eventually caught out over her tangled web of lies.
Recently, followers were left confused when a new post was uploaded to her Instagram account, despite the fact that she is currently in prison where she shouldn't have access to her phone.
We don't have a release date for Inventing Anna just yet, since filming was halted during episode five of ten due to the coronavirus pandemic, but fingers crossed we'll have some news soon.
