Julia Bradbury has penned an emotional message about sometimes feeling “overwhelming" sadness after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Countryfile presenter, 51, shared last month that she had been diagnosed with the illness and needs an emergency mastectomy.

Sharing a picture on Instagram showing her looking tearful, she wrote: “I want to share this photo, because it doesn't matter how much support you have, how much love, or even if you have a clear path of treatment for your breast cancer ... sometimes you just feel overwhelming sad.”

Bradbury added that there were “100 million folks around the world with cancer”, and continued: “I cry when I read a kind message sometimes, or if I think about the reality of my mastectomy, or this morning, when I couldn't hug my children before school, because I'm self-isolating.

“And that's OK."

“We're allowed to be sad, and there are some amazing support groups & charities there to help us," she said.

The TV star also urged people to look after their bodies and check themselves, adding: “And have a cry if you need to.”

Bradbury – who is mum to 10-year-old son Zephyrus and six-year-old twin daughters Xanthe and Zena with her long-term partner Gerard Cunningham – posted a message on Instagram in September revealing her diagnosis.

She later told the Mail on Sunday: “It changes your world forever in an instant.

"There is no preparing you for those words. You hear 'cancer' and your brain starts to explode."
