Hollyoaks actor Jorgie Porter has decided to speak openly about her miscarriage for the first time since she lost quadruplets in August.

The 33-year-old star told The Sun she hopes her decision to speak about her own tragedy will send a message to other women that they can talk about their losses.

She said: "Miscarriage is still a taboo subject, but by speaking out, it’s a way of coping and helping other women realise that they’re not alone.

"Since it happened, a couple of women at work have had miscarriages and I’ve taken them aside and gone: ‘me too, I get it'. It’s okay to talk."

Porter fell pregnant earlier this year with her property developer partner Ollie Piotrowski and decided to pay for a scan to determine if she might be carrying more than one baby, due to a history of twins in his family.

The couple were told Porter was pregnant with quadruplets, which are very rare and carry an enhanced risk of complications.

"It was so stressful. I wanted to believe everything was going to be okay, but I was scared because I knew the risks," said Porter.

"At every scan, we’d have the same worry – do they have heartbeats? I was going through so many emotions. I was carrying four babies, but didn’t know if they’d survive."

But at a 14-week scan, Porter and Piotrowski received the devastating news that she had suffered a "missed miscarriage" in which the body does not recognise the pregnancy loss.

Porter said the news "didn’t make sense" as she "still felt pregnant" and had all of the symptoms she had come to expect.

"If we can get through this, we can get through anything," said Porter.

She revealed she was presented with a care package by the hospital, which was made up of four teddy bears — one to commemorate each of her babies.
